Kuttikanam

Kuttikanam is a strikingly beautiful hill station, located near Peermade, in Idukki district.  Kuttikanam is a must-visit destination for those who feel free in the mountains. The seemingly endless cardamom and tea plantations, and the milky white clouds hanging low over the lush green mountain tops add to the exquisite charm of the place. There is a golf course and Ayurvedic center in Kuttikanam for those looking for rest and rejuvenation.  When it is hot in the plains, board a bus to Kuttikanam and lose yourself in the misty mountains.

History

In the 16th century the territory was under the rule of Changanacherry kings and was uninhabited. In 1756, the King of Travancore conquered Changanacherry, and brought the place under his supremacy. A Church Mission Society missionary, Henry Baker, started coffee plantations, and under the regency of Sri Moolam Thirunal these became tea plantations.

Under the British Raj in India, Kuttikkanam became an up-market resort. Since at first there was no road but only a pathway, the British started the Aerial Ropeway Ltd, Travancore state's first public limited company. The summer palace of the Travancore kings was located in Kuttikkanam.

During the British period and after, manpower was brought to Kuttikkanam from various parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The descendants of these migrant workers constitute the major part of the population of Kuttikkanam

Thusharagiri

Thusharagiri
Thusharagiri, one of the most beautiful destinations in Kozhikode cuddled in the folds of the Western Ghats is known for its picturesque waterfalls. Lying 50 km from Kozhikode, the Thusharagiri Waterfalls comprises three other falls which can be reached through trekking.
A place where two streams merge to become a river – Chalippuzha river- water cannot stop from leaping over rocky hills, just once. A trek starts from the hanging bridge, goes further up, from where you found this stream, get your gear ready for the real adventures, as Thusharagiri has only begun. Further inside the woods, more waterfalls wait for your dip. They are the Eerattumukku, Mazhavil Chattam and Thumpithullum para waterfall, the real gem which is hidden deep in the trail.
Your entire trek through the woods in the early morning to reach this stream, and drench yourself in water is finally justified, as you take another dip. But no, the fun doesn't stop here in Thusharagiri, for in this place, cascades come not in single, but in merry battalion.
On the trail one can meet Thanni Muthassi or the Grandmother Thanni, a Thanni tree (Bedda Nut Tree) which is believed to be 400 years old. Hollow inside, Thanni Muthassi can accommodate 3 persons at a time.
Ready for a day’s hike like that? Here’s the reward. At the end of the day, you’d reach Vythiri up the Ghats at Wayanad
